There are grants available at the state, city and federal. That is why it will be easier for you to find renewable energy grants.
Federal Renewable Energy Grants
The United States Department of Treasury provides federal renewable energy grants. These grants are available under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These grants are specifically for industrial, agricultural and new commercial constructions that will add renewable technology to the property.
Some of the acceptable changes include geothermal electric systems, heat pumps, wind energy systems, photovoltaic systems and solar space heaters. If the changes cover 30 percent of the property, then you can get up to $1,500 per 0.5 KW of green energy created. This program expired on December 31, 2010. However, you can still apply for this grant as long as the construction was done prior to this date.
Rural Energy for America Program
The Rural Energy for America program was created by The Food, Conservation and Energy Act in 2008. This grant is available for people who want to make changes to their property. Sixty million people were designated to be used in this program. This money can be used for agricultural or commercial programs. It can also be used for tribal governments, rural electric cooperatives and public power companies.
The specific technology requirements have not been named. That is why people can make a variety of renewable energy changes. It is important to note that you will not be able to use the grant to cover the entire cost of the project. However, you can get a grant to cover 25 percent of the project.
Renewable Energy Demonstration Pilot Program
This program is available was created by The State of Texas Department of Rural Affairs. This grant is available for local government entities that add renewable energy technology to their properties. This includes solar space heating, solar water heating, wind energy systems, hydroelectric systems and geothermal electric systems.
The maximum amount allowed has not been specified. The grant is designed to match a specific amount of money if the application is accepted.
Wind Energy for Desalination Program
The Texas Department of Rural Affair is also in charge of the Wind Energy for Dasalination Program. It is available for people who will be adding wind energy systems to dasalinate, or remove salt from the water. The purpose of this is to make drinking water safer. The grant is only available for cities that have less than 50,000 people. If the application is approved, then the recipient can receive up to $1.5 million.
REAP
REAP is available for the United States Department of Agriculture. People have the option of getting loans or grants. These grants and loans are available for rural businesses who want to install renewable energy systems such as solar and wind. There are limits placed on the amount of assistance that one can get.
If you get a grant, then the maximum amount that you can get is 25 percent of what the project will cost. REAP loans cannot exceed $25 million. You have the option of getting both a loan and a grant. However, the loan and grant combined cannot exceed 75 percent of the cost of the project.
There are several factors that are taken into consideration when determining whether you will be approved for a loan or grant. Some of those factors include the following.
• The types of renewable energy
• The environmental benefits that will be
• Estimated time it will take to generate savings
• The amount of energy expected to be generated
REAP has provided millions of dollars to rural businesses and farmers. Many people have been able to reduce their energy bills by up to 90 percent by using renewable energy.
